Success!

I have a How I Met Your Mother pen pal who lives in Vienna and plays the cello. This makes me happy.

Message my American School in Greece sent me... HA

Dear All,

Good afternoon :-).

A pair of rather original, brightly colored purple (ladies’) underpants went missing earlier today from the laundry room.

They are/ will me missed by their “wearer”.  Should you come across panties that fit this description and they are not yours, please return them to 3rd floor Reception where they will be happily accepted, no questions asked (you can even leave them anonymously).

Thanks and happy Monday,

Jennifer :-)

Falling in Love. Vienna.

Vienna was more amazing than planned. It was cold as hell compared to Greece, but still amazing. In the first 2 hours we were in Austria, we went shopping for warm clothes because we were so so so so unprepared. The first day we went to the Leopold Museum, which had a Gustav Klimt exhibition happening for the month. It was absolutely amazing to see. He is one of my favorite painters  so it was especially awesome. The gallery also had a massive exibit of Egon Shiele. His work might be a new favorite of mine. Expressionism is the bees knees, and i have fallen in love with him.  We also went to the summer palace of the Habsburgs. Lot o’ tourist there. The palace was big and beautiful, but i think the gardens were more impressive. They were huge! The entire LC campus  could fit in one of the Habsburgs back gardens.

In the Winter time, Vienna has christmas markets all over the place. They are all so pretty and cozy. It reminded me of the hollidazle parade back in minnesota i would go to. I realized how much i missed the winter months.

The rest of the time was spent at bars, cafes, and shopping. The best bar we went to was called jazzbird and it was totally an accident that we found it. The night we went happened to be jam session night, and the music was great. People would just flow in and out of playing, smoking cigarates and drinking beer. There was a beastly cellist playing that night who i had a major music crush on. I was drunk enough at this point to flirt my way into a conversation with him. Which luckly enough he bought and sound down with me for the rest of the night chit chattin away. His name was Clemens, he has never seen sound of music, and wants to move to chicago to study  in a few years.  After about an hour of talking he asked, ” do you watch how i met your mother?” when i said yes he was so excited i knew what he was talking about, we talked about the last episode for way longer than a episode should ever be talked about. But i didn’t care because i was also way to excited that he knew how i met your mother.

The trip in general was beautiful. Beautiful people, beautiful lights, beautiful art.. pretty pretty pretty everywhere. I never thought i would actually see vienna, but now that i have… i want to go back and live there forever.

This country is making me constantly sing Sound of Music lyrics in my head. It makes me truly happy. I like being happy, it’s a fun change. :P

That Awkward Moment

when you spend your evening playing zombies on call of duty instead of writing your paper on the role of madness in greek tragedy.

In 2 1/2 weeks i will be in portland spending of my rainy afternoons playing zombies, knitting and reading. Not that i want to leave, but when i do… life is going to be great in a whole new way :)

A Foggy Day in London Town.

Well… london was amazing. It was rather weird being in a english speaking country again but oh so nice. The friend i was visiting had to work on friday so i basically just spent the day walking. walking, walking, and walking. I went from regent park down oxford street, through piccadilly circus circus and past parliament to westminster abbey. After that, i got seriously lost but then found my way to the pub where i was meeting Thierry for drinks. Then the evening began. I think we went to 5 different pubs through out the nice, but i honestly don’t remember. After drinks we met up with his friend Antoine, maybe the most attractive frenchman i have ever met, to go to a indian restaurant for dinner. The rest of the evening was pub after pub after pub. One of them had foosball…awesome. Another had this rather dangerous Brazilian drink that kind of reminded me of jungle juice, and the last had a half naked DJ in a apron.

Saturday, after a lovely hangover, we went bouldering at a climbing gym. The place was amazing. It was inside of a castle in north london. It had like 5 levels and a well sized cafe by the bouldering walls. We ended up spend most of the afternoon there because there were so many different places to climb. That night Thierry took me and, his friend, Yassin out to hungarian food. My god it was delicious. Warm, hearty food and absolutely delicious wine. After dinner, the three of us went to the market next door to buy some dessert and beer. We headed back to Thierry’s apartment and spend the night drinking, eating amazing cheesecake, and talking about how weird french accents with british slang are.

The morning i left it was foggy and beautiful.

I can’t wait to live there one day.
